The Oxford dictionary defines Commitment as ‘the state or quality or quality of being dedicated to an activity’. I like this definition as it infers there has to be an activity. So before you decide you CAN, your first step is to clearly detail what your goal is. You MUST write down what you want to accomplish and a few steps/actions that can take you towards that goal (which could be Spiritual growth, Weight loss, Health regime). Commitment means your daily decisions and corresponding actions all line up to making your goal a reality. I remember at the beginning of 2014, I resolved to commit to a healthy lifestyle – I wanted my blood sugar readings to be lower and I wanted to look fit. I wrote down a few ideas like
- Eat right
- Take up some form of exercise
- Sleep less (I liked to sleep 10hours ☺)
I am so pleased that my blood sugar reduction goal was achieved. I am on the borderline of being diabetes-free and today I can swim well and can tell you how piling up the calories will affect your waistline. Let’s just say I am savvier in my food choices.
Without commitment and a dedication to the daily actions that bring results, you have a DREAM, not a goal and bad dreams will eventually become nightmares. Commitment is what makes your goal a reality and result in fulfilment
